Speaking to Sy-24 on 12 March, Dar Justice Investigator Hussam Kassas commented the following with respect to the Syrian government’s formation of a special committee to investigate recent events in the Syrian coast (rough translation):
The committee should be impartial and patient, and should utilise the broad mandate granted to it by the presidency to reach all parties in the Syrian coast, including civilians in areas where violations have occurred. These areas should be treated as crime scenes. Open source investigations should be used to verify events and identify perpetrators of violations.
